We’ve heard for years that snacking before bedtime is a sure way to gain weight. But did you know that certain kinds of food promote weight loss when eaten before you go to bed? Maintaining a healthy weight is not only about what you eat – it’s about when you eat it.
If you’re like most people, your food cravings hit their high point later in the day. There’s a good reason for that and it has to do with how glucose and insulin work in your body during the course of a day.
Without getting too scientific, the way it works is that carbohydrate tolerance and insulin sensitivity are impaired as the day progresses, so controlling blood sugar levels and managing insulin is critical in the late-night eating window. For this reason, the most important rule to remember is to AVOID CARBS at bedtime.
