Raking leaves can be a chore – a great fitness workout, but a chore nonetheless. Reward the kids for helping in the middle of the day with a leaf piñata! Sure, you’ll all have to rake it all up again, but that’s part of the day’s exercise fun! Don’t have a yard of your own? Take the family to a park, rake up some leaves and play there.
Gather: • Medium-sized trash bag • Dry leaves • Long rope • Tree limb • Bandanna or scarf • Broom handle or long stick
Play: • Fill the bag with dry leaves and knot the top of the bag. • Tie one end of the rope tightly beneath the knot. Toss the free end of the rope over a tree branch and hold the free end of the rope so you can raise and lower the piñata as each person takes their turn swinging. • To play, each child takes a turn being blindfolded, then gets spun around three times, and then is handed the broom to take three whacks at the leaf piñata. The winner is the person who breaks the bag.
