Build an Activity Chest You don't need a home gym to keep your family active. Just keep a few items in a designated box, chest, shelf closet or car trunk and you’ll all have instant incentive to get outside and get moving!
A soccer ball
An inflatable beach ball
A can of tennis balls
A jump rope
A hula hoop
Two softball gloves and a softball
The strategies If you pick up the kids from school or from after school activities regularly, stop at a park before you get home at least two days a week.
Treat the outing as a reward and set a time limit of 30 minutes for the play time.
Getting active before you get home means “chores” won’t get in the way.
Place equipment in a few activity stations in your yard or at a park and encourage the family to do a circuit of activities.
Use a stop watch to move from station to station.
Have stations interact – like tossing a ball back and forth between two stations.
Mix in non-equipment activities like jumping jacks, push-ups and running.
Go back to school (the playground that is) on weeknights or weekends.
Bring the basketball and shoot some hoops.
Skip rope around the perimeter of the playground.
Challenge each other to hula hooping!
