Operation Megaphone is
Calling All Teens
What do 3500 military kids do when they hang out overnight in a lock-in at 105 military youth program facilities around the world? They have a blast – and plan for another, even better event for the next year.
It’s ON! April 25 – 26, the number of teens participating in Operation Megaphone is anticipated to swell as the group uses social media, Skype, in-person events, scavenger hunts and more to make connections that could last a lifetime.
Operation Megaphone (OMP) sets aside time for military teens to discuss common issues, advocate for themselves and others, plus lead activities and support their communities by giving back. And it’s simply a dedicated time to have fun with other Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines kids.
The 2014 OMP theme is "Memories from Around the World," which celebrates the experiences that military teens have access to – and encourages them to share their stories with others. During the overnight event, programs and events will use the theme to focus on Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts, Sports, Fitness, and Recreation, and Technology.
OMP also encourages community service. This year’s service project is “Aid to the Philippines.” During the event, teens will focus on providing assistance to the tens of thousands of people who remain in need following the devastation of Super Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the island nation on November 8, 2013.
Be a part of what’s really happening with other military teens around the world. Find out more at the OpMegaphone Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/OpMegaphone) and register for this year’s OMP Worldwide Lock-in with your Youth Program Office.
