UK Bases Celebrate Let's Move Initiative and the London Olympics
More than 250 military children and 60 adults from USAFE installations in the UK participated in a fitness-themed day at the home of U.S. Ambassador, Mr. Louis Susman, on 27 JUL as part of First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" initiative and to celebrate the Olympic spirit. The event included current and former Olympic athletes: Grant Hill, Brandi Chastain, Apollo Ono, Dikembe Mutombo, Shawn Johnson, David Beckham, Summer Sanders, Carl Lewis and many others as they participated side by side with youth in a variety of activities. The first lady spoke directly to the children about the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle, eating healthy and reducing time spent playing video games and watching television. Mrs Obama specifically mentioned and thanked the children and families of military members stationed in the UK for participating and joined in every activity with the youth. Air Force Youth Programs played an active role in the event and is a strong advocate for the Let's Move campaign as it ties directly into the USAF FitFactor and FitFamily initiatives.
