Air Force Teen Movement Project Increases Youth Science Experiences
The 4th quarter Air Force Teen Movement Project - STEMulate Your Mind! - is designed to provide youth and teens with exciting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) opportunities to increase awareness and interest in these critical educational and career fields. Air Force Child and Youth Programs help youth explore a variety of STEM projects through hands on experiential learning that educate, encourage and inspire youth to become more involved in the sciences. In October, Air Force Child and Youth Programs participated in the 4-H National Youth Science Day (NYSD) experiment, Rockets to the Rescue, where youth were tasked to design and build an aerodynamic device that can deliver a payload of nutritious food to disaster victims.
Youth learned engineering concepts, developed math skills, learned about nutrition and helped solve a relevant, global issue. Child and Youth Programs partnered with on base organizations and local county 4-H Extension Educators to help support the 4-H National Youth Science Day initiative and offer STEM programs throughout the year. The long standing partnership between Air Force Child and Youth Programs and the 4-H Cooperative Extension System provides resources, support and opportunities for military youth, staff and families.
