Air Force Teens Attend National 4-H Conference
Twelve Air Force delegates from five AF installation Youth Programs attended the National 4-H Conference, April 9-14, 2016 in Chevy Chase, Md. During the conference, teens selected a societal topic, discussed community impacts, identified solutions, and developed a briefing to present federal agencies in the Washington D.C. area. Topics AF delegates researched included: analyzing climate, bioenergy, climate change, strengthening communities, fitness, college readiness and financial planning. Teens debated specific issues and prepared poignant briefings to share with their respective Federal Agency: NASA, Department of Energy, Department of Education, EPA, State Department, Small Business Association, and the President’s Council on Fitness, Sport & Nutrition. Air Force teens gained valuable knowledge and skills that they will utilize at Youth Programs, school and the community to generate a positive impact. This was the first year Air Force Youth Programs participated in the National 4-H Conference, an annual civic engagement event for 4-H members.
