Stress Management Tips

Your life can be happier, richer and healthier if you learn to manage everyday stress every day.

School and work pressures ebb and flow: Teach yourself to ride the most challenging waves by keeping these tips in mind.
  • Keep a positive attitude.
  • Accept that there are events that you cannot control.
  • Be assertive, not aggressive. Let others know your feelings, opinions, or beliefs without getting angry, defensive, or being passive.
  • Learn and practice mental and physical relaxation techniques regularly, such as meditation, yoga, or Tai Chi.
  • Keep your body fit and able to fight stress through regular exercise.
  • Eat healthy snacks and healthy, well-balanced meals.
  • Learn techniques to help you manage your time more effectively.
  • Set limits and learn to say no.
  • Make time for hobbies, interests and the people you love.
  • Get enough sleep so your body can recover from unusually stressful events – and daily stress too.
  • Don't turn to alcohol, drugs, or food as stress reducers, or caffeine as a stimulant.
  • Spend time with friends and build/maintain your social network.
  • If you simply cannot seem to ease the stress in your life, talk to a psychologist or other mental health professional trained in stress management.
