Meet an Air Force Family that is Losing Weight Safely using the Fit Family website
Exactly what is healthy weight loss? Most people trying to lose weight want to do it very quickly. In fact we’ve all heard over and over again – fad diets don’t work for permanent weight loss. Healthy weight loss isn’t just about a “diet” or a “program”, it’s about lifestyle changes in daily eating and exercise habits. In this article, you’ll meet Chante and Jeremy Hain, our Air Force FitFamily of the month, who are both losing weight safely and slowly using the USAF FitFamily website.
Weight loss motivators TSgt Chante Hain takes pride in her career at Hill AFB with the USAF 388 EMS unit and understands the importance the military places on health. Her motivator to lose weight is driven by her career – she can’t very well set standards for others in her unit if she herself lacks the discipline to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Chante started her journey by getting her husband Jeremy on board. Chante’s goal is to lose a total of 50 pounds over 12 months and Jeremy’s objective is similar. Motivated by her career is only a portion of the story, “My husband and I want to be positive role models for our children, and eating right and exercising is just one way to do this,” says TSgt Hain.
Change can be challenging Especially changes that affect what we do how we do it and how we look. It’s natural for anyone trying to lose weight to want to see a quick result, but evidence shows that people who lose weight gradually and steadily are more successful at keeping weight off. For Chante and Jeremy, changing their diet and sticking to it has been their greatest challenge. But they’re right on track to achieve successful results. Just a few months into their new plan, Chante has lost 7 pounds by advance planning of the family’s dietary needs, incorporating portion control as a discipline and sticking with a consistent exercise/activity program. It’s not easy and takes commitment – but already life-changing as a renewed energy and drive has been experienced by both.
Friendly competition and healthy rewards throughout USAF FitFamily.com The Fitfamily website serves as the complete package for the Hain family – from tips and recipes to tracking their progress. Each time Chante or Jeremy perform an activity, it becomes a family challenge. They’ll try to equal or better the other based on the point value given to each activity on USAF FitFamily.com! Talk about pressure! Including daughter Aja, 2 in the family diet and exercise routine has been a natural fit – and one they hope establishes a lifetime of healthy habits for her. And for a job well done they know how to reward themselves – with healthy desserts, of course. Here are two of their favorites:
Graham Cracker Snack Graham cracker halved topped with Cottage or ricotta cheese And strawberry or orange preserve
Yogurt Parfait Plain yogurt Fresh fruit Granola
Tips for Successful Weight Loss Chante encourages anyone who is trying to lose weight to use the FitFamily program and turn earning points into a game by trying to score more points every week. She also suggests that the keys to a successful weight loss plan include making time to research, plan, execute and to always give yourself a reward when reaching targeted milestones. Chante adds that once your goal weight has been achieved, continue to eat healthy and maintain physical activity to ensure the weight is kept off.
