Air Force Teen Named Military Youth of the Year

Arianna Skinner from Joint Base MDL, Fort Dix Youth Programs was named the 2016 Military Youth of the Year at a ceremony at the Army Navy Club, Washington, DC.  In partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), the military services participate in the Military Youth of the Year competition, an annual event which starts at the installation level, advances to the state and six regional levels, and culminates in the recognition of one teen who serves as a representative for military teens across the globe.  Although only a sophomore in high school, Arianna is already a role model to many teens at the JB MDL, Fort Dix Youth Center and participates in leadership and service activities and volunteers her time to support the community.  Throughout the advancing levels of competition, Arianna garnered over $65K in scholarships and now moves on to compete for the National Youth of the Year title against the five traditional BGCA regional winners on 27 Sept in Washington, DC.  After high school, Arianna intends to go to the Air Force Academy to become a fighter pilot.

Kids Eat Well with Healthy Recipes

It can be challenging getting family members, especially children, on board when it comes to making healthy food choices. By involving children with meal preparation, they're more likely to eat what they've helped to create. For nutritious recipe options you can prepare with your children.  Get your free Kids Live Well recipe book here.

Joint Base Andrews Child and Youth Programs Launches STEM Center of Innovation

The Youth Center at Joint Base Andrews (JBA) opened a new Center of Innovation, dedicated to sparking children's interest in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The JBA STEM Center of Innovation, funded by a grant from the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, will be used to inspire children with an interest in STEM subjects and provide youth access to advanced technologies that could encourage them to pursue further education in science fields. The lab includes a 3-D printer, high-definition drop screens, HD multimedia interface projectors, rocket and solar-panel kits, microscopes, a flight simulator and more.  The Center of Innovation allows students the opportunity to create and experiment in a safe and supervised environment while they explore a variety of STEM programs.  The STEM Center of Innovation was made possible thanks to the partnership between the Air Force and Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Air Force Youth Programs Celebrate Youths of the Year

The Air Force Youth of the Year Program recognizes young people for their accomplishments in the areas of leadership, character, and service; academic achievement; and healthy lifestyles.  This program, run through installation based Air Force Youth Programs, is in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Youth of the Year Program and provides military youth opportunities for scholarship awards and the title of Military Youth of the Year.  In 2015, RianSimone Harris from Vogelweh AB Youth Programs earned the Military Youth of the Year title and Air Force youth garnered more than $260,000 in scholarships. This year twenty-one Air Force youth won their State Military Youth of the Year contest and move on to compete in one of six regional competitions.  This year Air Force teens have won five of the six regional competitions.  The six regional winners now move on to be honored in a ceremony in Washington DC in September where one youth will be named the 2016 Military Youth of the Year.
