Air Force Teen Named Military Youth of the Year

Arianna Skinner from Joint Base MDL, Fort Dix Youth Programs was named the 2016 Military Youth of the Year at a ceremony at the Army Navy Club, Washington, DC.  In partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), the military services participate in the Military Youth of the Year competition, an annual event which starts at the installation level, advances to the state and six regional levels, and culminates in the recognition of one teen who serves as a representative for military teens across the globe.  Although only a sophomore in high school, Arianna is already a role model to many teens at the JB MDL, Fort Dix Youth Center and participates in leadership and service activities and volunteers her time to support the community.  Throughout the advancing levels of competition, Arianna garnered over $65K in scholarships and now moves on to compete for the National Youth of the Year title against the five traditional BGCA regional winners on 27 Sept in Washington, DC.  After high school, Arianna intends to go to the Air Force Academy to become a fighter pilot.

Andrews AFB and Ramstein AB Receive Raytheon and BGCA Center of Innovation

Raytheon is establishing six 'Centers of Innovation' at Boys & Girls Clubs affiliated Youth Centers on U.S. military installations and at Clubs that support military families. The centers are being funded through the company's $5 million, multi-year commitment to Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), part of Raytheon's recent $10 million pledge to support military veterans and their families.

Andrews Air Force Base Child and Youth Programs, MD and Ramstein Air Base Child and Youth Programs, Germany received two of the six centers that will open in the fall of 2015.  The centers will be fully outfitted with modern technology, and will offer full-time expert mentors to lead projects that apply the principles of science, technology, engineering and math. AF Youth Programs will use technology such as 3D printers, high-definition video conferencing and other tools to brainstorm ideas and collaborate on community improvement projects.

"The men and women who serve this country have sacrificed much for our safety and freedom, and it is our responsibility to help their families achieve great futures," said Tom Kennedy, Raytheon Chairman and CEO.

"Today's military child should be supported as they pursue a college degree, embark on a robust career or choose to serve to their country. The 'Centers of Innovation' are designed to foster critical thinking and problem solving skills that will serve military children in all their pursuits while exposing them to experiences that will inspire the innovations of our future."
