Purple Up for Military Kids!

One way 4-H Cooperative Extension celebrates the Month of the Military Child  is through Purple Up! For Military Kids.  The University of New Hampshire Military Youth and Family Program started the initiative in 2011 that quickly gained      momentum and is now celebrated nation-wide. In 2012, 48 states and 2 US territories participated in Purple Up! Everyone is encouraged to wear purple on Monday, April 15th as a visible way to show support and thank military youth for their strength and sacrifices. The color purple symbolizes all military service branches.

Take this special opportunity to celebrate our young heroes! The goal is for military youth to see the support of their community. Some ideas to get you started include:
• Ask your local, regional, state, and federal officials to wear purple on Monday, April 15th
• Invite news and media outlets to write a story about Purple Up! For Military Kids
• Involve schools, sports teams, youth organizations, clubs, afterschool programs
• Engage fraternal organizations, social clubs, and Rotary groups
• Request local businesses to post a Purple Up! flyer in their establishment
• Suggest companies and businesses ask their employees to wear purple
• Invite coworkers, as well as members of your spiritual community, exercise class, or golf league to join you in showing support for the military youth in your town by wearing purple on April 15th

Join us and Purple Up! for Military Kids on April 15th!
